On the afternoon of March 19, the Chinese Language Curriculum Center of the School of International Education held the first Chinese Bridge activity of this semester. Bathed in bright spring sunshine, teachers Chen Yang and Wu Xueyuan led international students on a campus tour, allowing them to experience the unique charm of spring and perceive the spring sentiments embodied in traditional Chinese culture.

With the theme of Spring Garden Tour, this activity aims to help international students better understand the spring scenery depicted in Chinese poems, deepen their cognition of traditional Chinese culture and improve their Chinese language application ability through on-site experience. Teachers and students wandered along the Banxia Lake, enjoying the graceful weeping willows and rippling blue waves. One international student shared that spring symbolizes the revival of all things, reminding him of the ancient line The grass of Yan is as green as silk; the mulberry leaves in Qin hang low and tender, which reflected his understanding and appreciation of classical Chinese poetry. On the hillside beside the basketball court, blooming flowers caught everyone’s eye. The students expressed that the gorgeous spring scenery marks the farewell to cold winter and embodies people’s expectations for a promising future. During the activity, teachers also introduced the Chinese and English names as well as growth characteristics of various flowers on campus, skillfully integrating language learning with natural knowledge.

This outdoor activity enabled international students to step out of the classroom and embrace natural beauty. They enjoyed the mild spring weather and strengthened their physical fitness, while learning and using Chinese in real scenarios. It also helped them deeply understand the cultural connotation of The whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring. The guiding teachers encouraged international students to keep in mind the ancient Chinese motto Do not cherish your golden robe; cherish instead your youthful days, cherish their study time in China, strive for self-improvement and lay a solid foundation for a bright future.
