1. Requirements and Procedures for China Visa Application International students must apply for a Chinese visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General in their home country. For information about the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General in your country, please visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China: http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/
1) Students planning to study in China for more than six months must enter China with an X1 Visa. The X1 visa is valid for 30 days upon entry, and youmust apply for a residence permit within 30 days after arrival. The university recommends that you do not enter China too early, as you are only eligible to apply for a residence permit after completing university registration.
2) Students planning to study in China for fewer than 180 days must enter China with an X2 Visa. The validity period is indicated on the visa. You may stay for the specified number of days from the date of entry, up to a maximum of 180 days. Students entering with an X2 visado not need to apply for a residence permit. The X2 visa allows only one entry to China.
Documents Required for Visa Application:
1) Original valid ordinary passport;
2) Original Admission Notice;
3) Original Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (Form JW201/JW202);
4) Foreigner Physical Examination Certificate;
5) Blood test report.
Application Procedures:
1) Make an appointment for visa application;
2) Submit the required documents to the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate General;
3) Collect your passport with the Chinese visa.
Note: Please retrieve the original Admission Notice and Form JW201/JW202. These are essential documents for applying for a residence permit after arriving in China.
2. Residence Permit Application
Freshmen holding an X1 visa must apply for a residence permit at the exit-entry administration authority at least one week in advance and within 30 days after entering China. Required documents:
1) Original and copy of your valid passport and visa;
2) Visa and Certificate Application Letter issued by Jiangsu Maritime Institute;
3) Original yellow copy of the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China (Form JW201 or JW202);
4) Completed Application Form for Visa and Residence Permit for Foreigners, with one recent 2-inch bareheaded white-background color photo attached;
5) Temporary Accommodation Registration Certificate, which shall be processed within 24 hours after arriving in Nanjing via the WeChat official account “Nanjing Police”;
6) Original Verification Certificate of Physical Examination Record for Overseas Personnel.
Please make an online appointment for the physical examination via the WeChat official account “Jiangsu International Travel Healthcare Center”, and go to No. 39 Chuangzhi Road on the appointed date.
Returning Students
Returning students must apply for a new residence permit at the Exit-Entry Administration Division of Nanjing Public Security Bureau or Jiangning District Civil Centerone month before their current visa expires, with the following materials:
1) Application Form for Foreigner Residence Permit
2) Passport
3) 2-inch photo
4) Residence Permit Application Letter issued by the university

3. Validity Period of Residence Permit
According to relevant regulations, the validity period of a stay permit is 6 months, and the validity period of a residence permit is 1 year.
4. Fee for Residence Permit Application
Residence permit valid for less than 1 year:CNY 400 per person.
5. Cancellation of Residence Permit
In accordance with the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China, foreigners who engage in activities inconsistent with the purpose of their stay or residence, or who violate Chinese laws and regulations and are deemed unfit to continue staying or residing in China, may be ordered to exit China within a specified time limit.
