On the afternoon of December 27th, the second floor of Nianjia Canteen was filled with a strong cultural atmosphere and cheerful laughter. The highlight of the 2nd Chinese Culture Festival of the School of International Education — the Traditional Cultural Bazaar — was grandly held here.
Carefully planned and organized by the Chinese Language Curriculum Center, the event themed The Beauty of Chinese, The Bridge of Culture aims to allow international students to experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture up close through rich and vivid interactive experiences. The event kicked off with a splendid Hanfu fashion show by students from the Chengshuo Hanfu Club, which won bursts of applause from the audience. Subsequently, Feng Junying, teacher from the Chinese Language Curriculum Center, introduced the arrangements of the bazaar.
A total of twelve traditional cultural experience activities were set up, including Chinese knot weaving, Peking Opera facial makeup painting, writing family letter postcards, traditional Chinese medicine sachet making, arrow-throwing game, rope skipping and shuttlecock kicking, Chinese chess matches, traditional lantern making, Chinese-style bookmark design, origami, and the grand finale — a tug-of-war competition between Chinese and international students. Volunteers from the Chinese Bridge Club and the Belt and Road Cultural Exchange Volunteer Service Club were stationed at each stall, providing detailed explanations and guidance for participating international students. Under the volunteers’ guidance, international students tried their hands at various crafts with great interest, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. The final tug-of-war competition pushed the excitement to a climax. Chinese and international students worked together, with cheers and encouragement ringing out one after another, making it the most thrilling and hilarious moment of the event.
International students at the scene expressed that the event was rich and colorful. It not only deepened their understanding of traditional Chinese culture, but also allowed them to apply the Chinese language learned in class to practical communication, and more importantly, they gained sincere friendship through interaction.
In an immersive and interactive form, the Traditional Cultural Bazaar has successfully built a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and foreign countries. Through diverse activities, it has enabled in-depth dialogue and integration between Chinese and foreign cultures in the bazaar, further demonstrating the school’s achievements in international Chinese language education and practice, and fostering an open, inclusive and culturally integrated campus atmosphere.
