To pay close attention to the mental health of international students on campus, the School of International Education held a mental health education session in Conference Room 1117, Haihan Building on the afternoon of March 19. The meeting was presided over by Wang Ting, Director of the Student Affairs Office, with all counselors, head teachers and on-campus international students in attendance.
Focusing on the psychological characteristics of international students, Wang Ting emphasized the significance of mental health during overseas studies. Combining common psychological dilemmas faced by international students, she explained scientific methods for cross-cultural adaptation, emotion management and stress regulation in a simple and straightforward way through case analysis and practical tips. She guided students to correctly understand psychological issues and learn self-awareness and self-care. Meanwhile, she introduced the university’s mental health counseling resources, including the reservation process for multilingual counseling services, and encouraged international students to take the initiative to seek professional help when facing psychological confusion, breaking the misconception that asking for psychological support means being weak.
Following the education session, the college organized all international students to participate in a general mental health assessment. Adapting to the characteristics of students in different grades, a hierarchical testing method was adopted: senior students completed online tests, while freshmen filled in bilingual questionnaires. Adopting internationally recognized psychological assessment scales, the assessment fully accommodated students from diverse cultural backgrounds and grade levels, so as to comprehensively and scientifically understand their psychological adaptation, emotional status and stress levels. Counselors and head teachers provided on-site guidance throughout the process and answered questions patiently, ensuring all students finished the assessment earnestly and truthfully and guaranteeing the authenticity and effectiveness of the results.
This mental health education session and general assessment serve as an important measure to care for the growth of international students, as well as a concrete practice of the college’s dual mechanism of academic guidance and psychological support. In the next stage, the college will update international students’ mental health files based on assessment results, and carry out personalized counseling and group psychological activities tailored to individual needs. It will continuously optimize psychological support services, help international students adapt to study and life in China quickly, foster a positive and healthy mindset, and support their academic and mental growth amid cross-cultural communication.
