School of International Education Held a Themed Gilded Painting Experience Activity of the 24 Solar Terms

To promote fine traditional Chinese culture and enrich campus cultural experiences for international students, the School of International Education successfully launched the 24 Solar Terms Gilded Painting Experience on April 20th, International Chinese Language Day. The activity was held in the Good Youth Space of the International Student One-stop Community, as one of the series activities for International Chinese Language Day. A total of 24 international students from various countries participated, experiencing the wisdom of solar terms and the charm of intangible cultural heritage through handcraft creation.

At the beginning of the activity, the instructor introduced the origin, phenological characteristics and cultural connotations of the 24 solar terms, and illustrated the ancient Chinese wisdom of observing astronomy and geography with vivid examples. Under the teacher’s guidance, international students recited the Ballad of the 24 Solar Terms to quickly perceive the unique charm of solar term culture. As an important part of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, gilded painting features exquisite craftsmanship and lasting luster. The instructor explained its production techniques, demonstrated core procedures and reminded participants of key notes. Afterwards, international students selected their favorite solar term sketches and devoted themselves to creation. They helped each other and focused on making artworks. Ordinary drafts shone brightly with gilded decorations, embodying their understanding and affection for solar term culture.

After completing the gilded paintings, international students sorted their works by applying the solar term knowledge they had learned. These artworks that integrate solar term heritage and intangible cultural heritage aesthetics were carefully displayed in the activity room of the international student one-stop community, adding a strong cultural atmosphere to the warm space and serving as vivid witnesses of Sino-foreign cultural integration.

Combining solar term culture with intangible cultural heritage crafts, this activity enabled international students to deeply understand the connotation of traditional solar terms and experience the unique glamour of intangible cultural heritage. It has enriched students’ campus life, built a bridge for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges, and fully reflected the college’s educational philosophy of cultivating people through culture.
