On April 18, as the 7th International Chinese Language Day and the 17th UN Chinese Language Day were approaching, the School of International Education carefully organized 31 international student representatives to visit Tangshan Weizhiyuan Farm for the themed cultural practice activity Grain Rain Moistens the Earth, Chinese Characters Take Root. Led by Feng Junying, Director of the Chinese Language Curriculum Center, and counselor Zhu Aijun, the event was successfully carried out.
Centering on the Grain Rain solar term and the essence of Chinese character culture, the activity featured four distinctive experience sections, allowing international students to immerse themselves in the profound charm of traditional Chinese culture. At the Grain Rain Spring Planting Camp, international students took part in farming work in person. They plowed the fields and sowed seeds, gaining direct experience of the ancient farming wisdom — Sow melons and beans around Grain Rain. In front of the bilingual memorial archway, they carefully wrote down their Chinese names, perceiving the structural beauty and unique meaning of Chinese characters through every stroke.
The Ancient Rhyme Recitation Corner served as an poetic highlight of the activity. Guided by teachers, international students recited classic poems and solar term proverbs, presenting the rhythmic beauty of Chinese characters with a history of thousands of years and feeling the warmth of Chinese civilization amid melodious reading. The interesting Chinese Character Challenge included levels such as character recognition, word formation, sentence making and cultural explanation, which greatly stimulated students’ enthusiasm for learning. All participants took an active part in the interaction, consolidating their Chinese knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere. They appreciated the exquisite structure and profound connotation of Chinese characters, further boosting their passion for Chinese learning.
International Chinese Language Day is a key brand event in the field of international Chinese education. Actively responding to the initiative of International Chinese Language Day, the School of International Education has continuously launched diverse and in-depth Chinese promotion and cultural experience activities. By innovating teaching methods and expanding practical scenarios, the college helps international students learn Chinese better, understand China and embrace fine traditional Chinese culture, so as to steadily improve the quality of international Chinese education and the effectiveness of cultural communication.
