To effectively protect the personal and property safety of on-campus international students, and strengthen their awareness of risk prevention and the rule of law, the School of International Education held a safety education conference in Conference Room 301, Jinghui Building on the afternoon of April 22. Zhang Min, Deputy Secretary of the General Party Branch of the School of International Education, all on-campus international students, counselors and head teachers attended the meeting, which was presided over by Wang Ting, Director of the Student Affairs Management Office.
The conference specially invited Wang Chenxing, Third-Class Police Officer from the Exit-Entry Administration Brigade of Jiangning Branch, Nanjing Public Security Bureau, to deliver a special safety lecture. Combining typical traffic accident cases occurring in universities in Nanjing recently, Police Officer Wang explained laws through real cases and deeply analyzed potential safety hazards that international students may face during travel. He reminded international students to strictly abide by Chinese traffic laws and regulations and avoid travel risks. Afterwards, he gave a comprehensive lecture on key safety issues concerning international students’ study and life in China, covering fire safety, personal and property safety, illegal missionary activities, illegal employment, drug hazards, with a focus on anti-fraud education.
By illustrating new types of online fraud targeting international students, he decoded common fraud tactics in plain language and stressed the anti-fraud principle of do not trust easily, do not disclose personal information, and do not make transfers. Bilingual anti-fraud brochures in Chinese and English were distributed on site to help all international students fully master anti-fraud knowledge and enhance their risk prevention capabilities.
In the Q&A session, Police Officer Wang patiently answered various questions raised by international students. He particularly addressed hot concerns of graduating students, such as the application for summer stay visas after upgrading from junior college to undergraduate programs and the extension of residence permits, and provided clear guidelines in accordance with relevant policies and regulations, effectively resolving practical doubts and making the safety education more targeted and practical.
At the meeting, representatives of head teachers reported recent violations in the management of international students, clarified campus discipline requirements once again, and guided international students to establish a strong sense of rules and standardize their behaviors to prevent disciplinary violations.
In her concluding speech, Zhang Min emphasized that all international students should firmly establish safety awareness, take the initiative to learn safety knowledge and laws and regulations, and consciously avoid various potential risks. Counselors and head teachers shall continue to strengthen daily safety management and services, conduct regular safety reminders, timely identify hidden dangers, and strive to create a safe, harmonious and orderly study and living environment for international students.
With detailed and practical content, this conference effectively improved international students’ awareness of safety prevention and awareness of the rule of law. Going forward, the School of International Education will carry out regular safety education activities, consolidate the safety defense line for international students, and safeguard their healthy, safe and smooth study experience in China.
