The School of International Education operates in conjunction with the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office. It currently has 52 faculty members, including 2 professors and 9 associate professors, among whom 4 hold doctoral degrees. The proportion of dual-qualified teachers reaches 75%, teachers with postgraduate education accounts for 86%, and 40% of the faculty have overseas education and training experience. There are 2 young backbone teachers selected for the Jiangsu Provincial Green and Blue Project and 2 university-level distinguished teachers.
The school undertakes the teaching and management of public basic courses such as College Foreign Languages and College Chinese for the whole university. It has set up four centers, namely the Chinese Language Course Center, College English Course Center, International Program Course Center and Language Training Center. At present, it owns 2 university-level teaching teams, 1 university-level Language and Culture Research Center, 1 university-level Applied Foreign Language Technology Research Center, and has jointly built the Jiangsu Maritime Institute-New Oriental Learning Center in cooperation with New Oriental Education Group.
Responsible for education for international students in China, the school enrolls nearly 130 international students from Belt and Road countries including Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, South Africa, Nigeria and Guinea. It steadily advances the university’s international education strategy, continuously enhancing its global influence and discourse power, and has been listed among the Top 50 Higher Vocational Colleges in China for International Influence for three consecutive years. Adhering to the student-centered educational philosophy, the school is committed to improving the English application competence of teachers and students, upgrading international exchange and cooperation capabilities, and taking proactive responsibility in striving to build a world-renowned maritime university.
